How to Crack Open a Coconut Quickly, Easily and Painlessly

Video embedded  Sometimes, when I need to crack open an egg, I will try to do it the way they always do on TV, with one hand. I usually make such a mess after the first.

You guys, I am so crazy excited about this post, I feel like a kid on Christmas morning. It might not look like much, I mean, there aren t even any pretty pictures to look at or anything

So what can I possibly be so excited about, you wonder. Trust me and read on. This is PRICELESS.

For the first time EVER, I am sharing a video with you all. And not just any video, a video that I made myself.

Okay, now this was my first time shooting and editing video, so please, go easy on me. The poor quality of the offering won t prevent you from getting all the valuable information that it is meant to offer. And THAT is what s important.

You see, I LOVE LOVE LOVE fresh coconut with a passion, but I used to never eat it because cracking open that hard shell to get to the precious meat was a task that I deemed quite darn close to impossible to accomplish. I d tried every possible technique, from using a hammer, saw or power drill, to slipping the thing into a pillow case and smashing it against hard concrete. All very messy and sometimes dangerous. procedures that didn t yield the best results and often left me very frustrated and essentially coconutless, too.

That was until one day, I learned this SUPER EASY AND QUICK technique for getting the job done using nothing but a good old chef knife. Seriously, that method is so easy that, once you ve mastered it, you ll be cracking coconut after coconut and will be able to enjoy it in its fresh form anytime you want.

So, without further ado, here goes. Hope you enjoy.

And now that you know how to operate these coconuts like a champ, next time, we ll be making Fresh Coconut Milk from scratch.

You will not believe how good that stuff is.

If you ve discovered a geode a rounded rock formation with crystals or banding inside, you ll want to crack it open as safely and neatly as possible. Every geode is unique, and could hold anything from clear, pure quartz crystals to rich purple amethyst crystals, or perhaps agate, chalcedony, or minerals like dolomite. Fortunately, there s more than one way to crack open a geode

Take a small Sledgehammer or a rock hammer preferably not a construction hammer, such as a claw hammer and strike the top center of the geode. A couple of strikes might be required to fully crack open this rock. This is likely to result in the geode fragmenting into more than two pieces, but it is the most suitable method for kids, though not recommended for particularly valuable/rare geodes. 1

Strike geode with another larger geode. This only really works if you control the striking rock in the palm of your hand. Only use this method on small, golf-ball-sized geodes.

Use a cast iron pipe snap cutter. This common plumber s tool can aid you in splitting a geode symmetrically, that is, into two equal halves. Wrap the tool s bicycle-type chain around your geode.

It should crack smoothly all around. This is the least destructive method that displays a geode in a natural form.

Give us 3 minutes of knowledge.

Geodes that rattle when shaken may be hollow and contain free floating fully-terminated crystals, such as quartz.

Place geode on a larger rock at ground-level, or upon sand never wood, like a picnic table or deck floor to promote the best results of your tool striking your geode safely and cleanly.

Sometimes smaller geodes may be solid inside, yet still attractive. Even filled geodes can be chock-full of beautifully banded agates.

Always be careful and follow general safety procedures for rockhounding and tool use. Be mindful of any folks or animals observing you cracking open your geode, as rock shards you create may fly towards the onlookers, and injure them. With safety in mind, please enjoy your geodes.
